As a CFN member, you receive regular updates on CFN activities and events, along with notices about funding and collaborative opportunities.

CFN Membership Guidelines


CFN offers both full and associate memberships to individuals and institutions.

Full Member:

Full member categories:
•    Institution – institutions eligible for funding through NSERC, SSHRC or CIHR and who sign a Membership Agreement
•    Network Investigator – Principal Investigators (PIs) / Supervisors of Fellows or Summer Students currently receiving CFN funds and holding an academic or research appointment at an eligible institution who agree to abide by our Conflict of Interest policy
•    Associate Investigator – co-investigator on currently-funded network-funded projects who agrees to abide by our Conflict of Interest policy
•    Network Affiliate – not for profit, public or private organizations who sign a Network Affiliate agreement or Memorandum of Understanding and collaborate or partner with CFN on a specific funded initiative or project
•    Network Trainee – Highly Qualified Personnel (HQP) receiving CFN funding through a Network-funded project or award and participating in the CFN training program; including Interdisciplinary Fellows and Summer Student Award recipient, and agree to abide by our Conflict of Interest policy.

Associate Member categories:
•    Organization – public, private or not for profit organizations that are beneficial or critical to the success of the Network and regularly partner/collaborate with CFN and/or its members and are not currently funded
•    Individual – individuals who provide beneficial and /or critical contribution to the Network but are not currently funded – e.g. project collaborators, knowledge users, knowledge brokers, Highly Qualified Personnel and previously funded co-investigators, Interdisciplinary Fellows and Summer Student Award recipients. Mentors of Interdisciplinary Fellows and Summer Students may also apply for membership.

How to become a member:

Full members:
Institution:   Institutions eligible for funding through NSERC, SSHRC or CIHR can apply for CFN membership by contacting CFN and signing a Network Agreement, pursuant to Board approval.

Network Investigator – Principal Network Investigators automatically become full members upon receiving CFN funding. Once funding is complete, Network Investigators become Associate Members (Individual).

Associate Investigator – Co-investigators on CFN-funded projects automatically become full members of the Network for the period that the project is funded. Once the project is complete, Associate Investigators become Associate Members (Individual).
