Doug Manuel, MD, MSc, FRCPC

Dr. Manuel is a Medical Doctor with a Masters degree in Epidemiology, and Royal College specialization in Public Health and Preventive Medicine. His current practice is at the Ottawa Newcomer Clinic Centre, the health care point of entry for refugees arriving in Ottawa. He has published over 150 research papers, including papers in leading journals, such as the New England Journal of Medicine and the British Medical Journal. He has also held a Chair in Applied Public Health from the Canadian Institute of Health Research and has led public health research programs.

Dr. Manuel's research combines his interests in public health, health care systems and primary care. He is an internationally-recognized scientist for his contribution to predictive modeling of health outcomes. Through his role as a Senior Medical Advisor at Statistics Canada, as well as work conducted under several CIHR-funded research grants, Dr. Manuel has developed several population health impact assessment tools for mortality, diabetes, stroke, and cardiovascular disease, as well as microsimulation models of diabetes and dementia. As a Senior Core Scientist at the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES), he has had over 15 years of experience in developing and using health administrative data for research.
