Ms. Costa is a Registered Nurse and a PhD student in the Queen’s University, School of Nursing in Kingston, Ontario. She completed her Masters of Nursing at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil and immigrated to Canada to pursue doctoral studies. Her research interests include strategies to improve health care for people living with chronic conditions, and her doctoral dissertation focuses on the development and implementation of an education model to give patients with diabetes-related wounds the confidence and knowledge to engage in the management of their condition. She believes that empowering people to engage in their own health care is crucial to improve health outcomes and quality of life. In addition to her doctoral project, she has been involved in research studies in Canada and Brazil to enhance health care for people with chronic wounds. Ms. Costa’s desire to improve the quality of care for people with chronic conditions has led her to use social media to share experience and communicate evidence-based practice with nurses and others health professionals. Ms. Costa has also been the recipient of multiple awards in recognition of her outstanding work as a registered nurse and doctoral student.
