CFN Co-Investigator Holly Witteman, CFN Board Member Sharon Straus, and team addressed the question, Are gender gaps [in research funding] due to evaluations of the applicant or the science?

“…our study provides empirical evidence from a natural experiment that gender gaps in grant funding stem from women being evaluated less favourably as principal investigators, not from differences in the quality of proposals led by men and women.”
