2020 Summer Student Awards

The competition deadline has now passed and is in the review process. Thank you to those who took the time to submit an Intent to Apply.

A crucial part of Canadian Frailty Network’s mandate is to develop the next generation of Highly Qualified Personnel (HQP) – the scientists and teachers, clinicians, and health and social services professionals that will improve care for older adults living with frailty. CFN’s Summer Student Awards (SSA) Program offers undergraduate students an experiential program in partnership with member institutions and partners across the country. In New Brunswick, the competition is presented in collaboration with the New Brunswick Health Research Foundation (NBHRF).

About the 2020 competition

Funding: Funding of up to $4,000 per student is available, with at least 100% in guaranteed matching funds required from the student’s supervisor. Both are to be paid as student salary and benefits only. In New Brunswick, the competition is presented in collaboration with the New Brunswick Health Research Foundation (NBHRF), with students from New Brunswick (NB) being funded under the terms of the collaboration, with NBHRF as the matching fund partner for NB applicants.

Eligibility: Undergraduate students are eligible to apply if they are enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree program at an eligible Canadian university at the time of application. Applicants must have completed all of the course requirements of at least the first year of study in their programs (two academic terms), and must be in good academic standing with their universities. Students from any discipline are encouraged to apply, so long as their proposed summer activities align with the strategic priorities of CFN related to improving care for older Canadians living with frailty.

Competition Requirements: Only students who submitted a Pre-Application Intent to Apply by the deadline (November 8, 2019 at 5 p.m. ET) were eligible to submit full Application Packages (by December 16, 2019 at 12 noon ET). Eligibility and requirements are outlined in the Program Guidelines and applicants are advised to read them and the Application Instructions before applying.

2020 SSA Application Package elements are: Application Form, Learning Plan, CV/Resume, Endorsement from proposed supervisor, and transcripts.
