CFN Interdisciplinary Fellow 2018

Supervisor: Dr. Nancy Salbach

Kyla Alsbury completed her physical therapy training at Queen’s University in 2014 and worked clinically for four years in private practice orthopaedics. With her experience gained in clinical practice working with older adults, Kyla realized that she could make a greater contribution to the field of physical therapy by returning to academia. Kyla is now a first year PhD student under the supervision of Dr. Nancy Salbach at the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute at the University of Toronto. She is passionate about the care of older adults and the benefits of exercise. Her research will investigate how older adults access community-based exercise programs with a healthcare-recreation partnership, tailored for those with balance and mobility limitations. Kyla is equally intrigued by the challenges and benefits of knowledge translation. She is also assisting with several literature reviews and hopes to make significant contributions to research on frailty. Kyla has been selected for the Interdisciplinary Fellowship Program of 2018-2019 with the Canadian Frailty Network and is deeply grateful for the support and learning opportunities this opportunity offers.
