Mariko Sakamoto is a PhD student in the School of Nursing at the University of British Columbia. She has been a registered nurse since 1998, mostly working as a community health nurse in the Vancouver area. Her research interests include understanding how people experience and live with dementia, and her dissertation research is focused on Alternate Level of Care (ALC) patients with dementia. These patients are usually frail and elderly and are at risk for poor health outcomes. Mariko’s research brings much needed attention to these patients’ needs and hospital experiences.
