CFN Board Member, Dr. Sharon Straus, appointed to the Order of Canada

January 3, 2022

CFN Board member, Dr. Sharon Straus, was recently appointed to the Order of Canada, one of Canada’s highest honours. The Order of Canada recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community, and service to the nation. The appointment was announced by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, in late December 2021. Dr. Straus received the honour for her contributions to the field of knowledge translation and for her mentorship in the field of epidemiology. She will be presented with her insignia at a future investiture ceremony.

Dr. Straus, a geriatrician and clinical epidemiologist, is the Physician-in-Chief at St. Michael’s Hospital and Director of the Knowledge Translation Program at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute. She holds a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Knowledge Translation and Quality of Care. Her work focuses on the equitable treatment of populations and has been instrumental in highlighting how to optimize patient care and systems, such as acute and long-term care. Her work has been particularly timely and important during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On behalf of our network, CFN extends a warm congratulations on this impressive achievement!
